Occupational Health & Safety
Construction Engineering believes that Occupational Health and Safety is of the utmost importance. As a result, Construction Engineering ensures that the effective management of Occupational Health and Safety is a critical area of responsibility across all aspects of the organisation. With a highly experienced Occupational Health and Safety Manager, Construction Engineering is well placed to handle the ever increasing responsibilities and duties incumbent on a construction organisation. The Directors of Construction Engineering are committed to ensuring that OHS remains at the forefront of business operations. OHS is a regular agenda item at the Directors’ fortnightly board meetings. OHS Statistics are analysed and acted upon at board level. The Directors are also actively involved in monthly OHS Committee meetings. Each Construction Engineering site is subject to a Project Risk Assessment, where hazards are identified and controlled before the site is established. OHS continues to be managed on site through regular workplace inspections, weekly OHS meetings on site as well as ongoing hazard reporting and regular internal audits of OHS systems. Construction Engineering has undertaken a rigorous OHS training regime and forms a cornerstone of our business. All Project Managers and Foremen have undergone a minimum of Certificate 3 – OHS. Various other courses such as First Aid – Level 2, and industry specific courses are also offered to our staff. Construction Engineering prides itself on its OHS performance. The organisation is accredited to Australian Standard AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems—Specification with guidance for use and has met the requirements of the Australian Government Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme. |
Environmentally Sustainable Design
Construction Engineering has undertaken many major projects that have been designed from the outset using ESD principles to achieve Green Star and NABERS ratings and certifications. While the design consultants play a major role in presenting designs that incorporate environmentally responsible solutions, as a builder Construction Engineering also contributes by using construction principles that reflect environmental awareness. Construction Engineering is proud to have been a team member involved in one of the first commercial developments in Australia to achieve a six star status. Amongst other accolades the company obtained the 2007 Property Council of Australia Innovation and Excellence Award for Sustainable Development. Implementing ESD and achieving a green star rating requires commitment from all members of the project team including the client, the design consultants, the Construction Engineering project team, the subcontractors and other suppliers. Education is a key factor to ensure all involved are up to speed with requirements and are disciplined during the implementation process so that Green Star Council approval is gained. Construction Engineering employs a number of Green Star Professionals who share their expertise on projects as required. |
QA Systems & Procedures
Construction Engineering has an extensive Quality Assurance Program and monitoring system in place to ensure projects are completed to consistently high standards and to customers’ expectations. The company’s corporate Quality Assurance Policy formalises the benchmarking and monitoring processes, the foundations of which that have been employed by Construction Engineering for decades. The Quality Manager reports directly to the Construction Engineering Directors, and is required to advise and assist all Project Managers and their teams throughout the build process. Should a significant issue arise, the Quality Manager investigates and reports his findings to the appropriate Director representing the project, as well as the other Directors. Construction Engineering’s Quality Management process begins at the start of a project, with the Quality Manager conducting a proactive review and analysis of the project documentation. Prudent changes to a building’s design, construction methodology or use of proposed building materials may be recommended by the Quality Manager as a consequence of the review. Proactive Quality inspections will also occur throughout the duration of the project, with reporting and recommendations made to both the Project Team and Construction Engineering Directors. Such inspections can either be requested by the Project Team if an issue arises, or will form part of a normal routine visit which helps early detection of any likely problems. |
